This is a video I made for the 2009 Westfest music festival here in Ottawa. It was show on the main stage right before the headliners on the county music night.

“eyes” is an exploration in to the gaze between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal men and women. This video recontextualizes representations from Hollywood films of the relationships created by colonialism between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal peoples. It looks to complicate understandings of the power dynamics of colonizer and colonized and how this plays out through sexuality and intimate personal communication. With a smooth R n B sound the artist has worked to open up these images for new interpretations leaving the question of where the power lies unanswered.
